(KRON) — A small aircraft that crashed into the Petaluma River prompted a multi-agency response Thursday evening. The pilot, who was the only person on board, was rescued from the waterway, according to a report from the U.S. Coast Guard.
The crash occurred around 6:40 p.m. southeast of Petaluma and west of the Lakeville Landing Marina. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the 2002 Quicksilver MXL II Sport light aircraft flipped over while the pilot attempted to land on the river.
It is unknown if the pilot suffered any injuries in the crash.
The plane was holding approximately 11 gallons of fuel when it went into the Petaluma River, which could “potentially release,” according to a report filed with the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
