NEW ORLEANS — More than 60,000 illegally dumped tires have been removed from New Orleans East over the past five years, according to state transportation officials. This comes as communities continue to report persistent dumping despite increased cleanup efforts and surveillance cameras.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) says crews regularly respond to tire dumping sites across the area, with hotspots concentrated near interstate corridors, including Michoud, Lake Forest, and areas near Lincoln Beach.
“We maintain these roads, so we have to inspect them,” said Scott Boyle with DOTD. “When we see this type of dumping going on, we have a responsibility to perform cleanup.”…
