Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas and Louisiana’s Bonvenu Bank
have awarded $500,000 in grants to five area organizations to help locals resolve heirs’ property issues. The Pro Bono Project, Community Development Capital of New Orleans and West 30’s Redemption Co. each received $150,000 grants and The Petra Foundation and Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West both received $25,000. Those housing and legal-focused organizations will use the grants to aid people who received property from a deceased family member without a will, which creates a complicated ownership situation.

a West Monroe Republican, told an audience “Y’all need to shut up” during a state legislature hearing as Republicans consider destroying one, if not both, of Louisiana’s majority Black congressional districts. Further, Dadrius Lanus, the state Democratic Party’s executive director, alleged Morris called him “boy” during an exchange. Morris denied using any derogatory language.
