New Orleans musical family brings ‘Belle Noire’ jazz tribute to New York

The Lewis Family of New Orleans will present the New York City premiere of “Belle Noire,” a theatrical concert celebrating the lineage, artistry, and community foundations of iconic Black female performers, for a one-night-only engagement on Tuesday, June 16.

The performance is scheduled for 7 p.m. at The Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College, located at Loewe Plaza on East 68th Street between Park and Lexington avenues. Co-directed by Leila Lewis and Kay Lewis, the production traces a historical through-line from early Black women entertainers to contemporary performers.
