Horry County Schools pay plan advances, but support staff say raises still fall short

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — Horry County Schools teachers could see a pay raise in 2027 under a budget proposal that received preliminary approval, but some school employees and board members say the plan still doesn’t go far enough for support staff.

The district’s proposed budget includes a 1.6 percent longevity increase and a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment, bringing a teacher’s beginning salary to just above $54,000.

Support staff would receive the COLA and longevity increases as well, plus a 25-cent-an-hour increase that would bring starting hourly pay to $16.50…
