Schenectady Islamic Center looks to increase security

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — After this weeks deadly shooting attack at a California mosque, the Islamic Center for the Capital District is reflecting on their own safety measures.

The center combines community programs, a school and mosque in one complex. Executive Director Dr. Ismail Al-Zubi said their programs teach more than 200 students combined.

“People are welcome from any background or any faith to be here,” said Al-Zubi.

After Monday’s attack, Al-Zubi said he was shaken and that the center condemns the attack and stands in solidarity. His phone was flooded on Tuesday with caring messages from other faith leaders hoping to reassure him…
