Long lines return to Sedgwick County tag office

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – Long lines are once again creating headaches at the Sedgwick County tag office, but the county treasurer said the backup is different from last year.

A year ago, the tag office was seeing between 650 to 680 customers in person a day at two locations. That has now increased to between 900 to 1,300 per day at the one main location on Douglas along with satellite locations around the city.

County Treasurer Brandi Baily said the increase last year was driven by the personalized plate cycle. Now she said the demand is driven by state system limitations, insurance verification issues and transaction requirements that are requiring more in-person transactions.

Capacity reached by 7:30 a.m.

Baily said they are hitting fire capacity at the Douglas tag office at 7:30 in the morning with people lining up around the building. She highlighted what’s causing this and people not being able to get appointments for several weeks…
