Defendant takes stand, describes boyfriend’s fatal shooting as ‘scariest thing’ in her life

NEW ORLEANS — In a dramatic turn, Cache Shelton took the stand in her own defense Wednesday and described the moments after her boyfriend of three years, Nicolas Harrison, was shot in the head in a downtown New Orleans hotel room “the scariest thing that happened to me in my life.”

Shelton admitted under cross examination by District Attorney Jason Williams that she had indeed changed her story about how the shooting happened in the minutes and hours after Harrison was shot through the brain while wearing nothing but his underwear in bed in the Courtyard by Marriott hotel on Julia Street.

She admitted she initially told hotel workers, a 911 operator and the first responding NOPD officer that Harrison had shot himself, before changing to say she and Harrison had tussled over the gun and it went off and she wasn’t sure who was holding it at the time. But she chalked up the shifting stories to trauma and confusion…
