There’s a new plan to fix New Orleans’ aging traffic lights, Mayor Helena Moreno announces

Mayor Helena Moreno launched a new initiative on Thursday to repair and upgrade New Orleans’ traffic signals, with the goal of improving traffic flow and making intersections safer for both pedestrians and drivers.

The city manages more than 400 traffic signals, though much of the infrastructure is beyond its usable life. Many of the lights include wiring that isn’t sealed properly, causing the signals to trip and revert to “flash” mode after rainfall.

“This is a situation that has been accepted for far too long. It’s caused so much frustration, and we’re not gonna put up with it, and it’s time to work with urgency to get this situation fixed,” Moreno said at a news conference Thursday…
