Cutler Bay man ambushed victim before Hialeah fatal shooting, police say

Police say a Cutler Bay man waited in his car a block away for a man to come out of his Hialeah house and then fatally shoot him late last month.

Hialeah detectives say Johnny George Mays, 48, shot the man several times in the upper body with a .9 mm handgun before driving off around 7 a.m. Saturday, March 28. Police found the man’s body in his driveway in the 600 block of West 15th Street, along with five spent bullet casings, according to Mays’ arrest report.

Detectives arrested Mays Thursday, and he is being held on first-degree murder and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center. He has entered a written plea of not guilty, and a judge Monday ordered him held without bond until trial…
