FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – After a series of shootings that injured 11 people and killed two young adults, the community is calling for action against gun violence in the city.
Roderick Parker, Founder & Executive Director at Big Hearts Community Projects, Inc., assembled a group from across the Summit City and says the gathering was about men stepping into the responsibility that has been “too often neglected.”
Ahead of the gathering, Parker posted an invitation to his Facebook page. “Our city is hurting. Our neighborhoods are hurting. Our families are hurting,” reads the post. “As men, we were created to be protectors. Protectors of our women. Protectors of our children. Protectors of our families and our neighborhoods. When violence becomes normal, when fear replaces hope, and when our children grow up believing gunfire is just another part of life, it is time for us to stand together and say, ‘No more.’”…
