Smish Smash, one of the Bay Area’s best burger spots and ranked No. 80 on the Chronicle’s Top 100 restaurants, will be expanding to Berkeley next year.
Owners Amy Han and Vic Donado, also Smish Smash’s chef, told the Chronicle they plan to open a new location in January at 1823 Solano Ave. They currently run a kiosk in San Francisco’s Saluhall food hall, where they press a ground chuck-brisket blend into lacy, crispy platties on a scalding hot plancha.
Han said that they worked with an agent for years to find the right East Bay space for a new location. After a couple of fallen deals, they landed on a space that was recently operated in tandem by Korean fried chicken shop Chimmelier and hamburger spot Oh G Burger. “We’re really happy to be back in the East Bay because that’s where we started,” Han said…
