Developers fee helping to fund big Mesa projects

Signal Butte Water Treatment Plant’s Phase 2 expansion, sewer lines and ground water wells are some of the projects Mesa is funding next fiscal year with a fee recently imposed on developers to pay for growth.

The capacity fee, which took effect Jan. 1, was expected to generate $40 million over 10 years to pay for the infrastructure projects that are needed due to the development builders bring to Mesa.

“We are able to do these (projects) and relieve the rate pressure on the current rate customers,” said Brian Ritschel, Management and Budget director at the April 16 study session…
