Return to the River brings an otherworldly experience to the streets of Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI — Downtown Grand Rapids is filled with space-themed art and music this weekend for the fifth annual Return to the River festival.

Return to the River is a two-day free festival running Saturday, Aug. 22, from 1 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 23, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Starting in 2022, organizers from Downtown Grand Rapids Inc. set out to create an event to activate Grand Rapids’ riverfront. Over the years, the event has grown and become a staple.

“I love it here,” said Aurielis Rosario, a Grand Rapids resident who attended the festival for the first time last year and returned this year.

”We just came here and started dancing. I‘m really thankful that Grand Rapids has all these really cool things to look forward to every year. It being free just makes it so easily accessible for everyone,” Rosario added…
