GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Supporters gathered Monday morning outside John Ball Zoo to urge voters to pass the renewal of a millage that funds the zoo and Grand Rapids Public Museum.
First passed in 2016, the millage is on the Nov. 3 ballot in Kent County for renewal for the next 10 years.
“The results speak for themselves,” museum board member Lyman Parks Jr. said of the original millage. “More students served, more visitors welcomed, stronger economic impact and continued investment in the programs, collections and experiences that benefit the public.”
The millage renewal has a slightly lower rate than the first time around. At a rate at .4086, it is expected to cost the owner of a home with a taxable value of $100,000 about $41 annually.
