GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – Police released a copy of the letter Thursday that was found inside a box that prompted an emergency shutdown of Adams and Cherry streets in downtown Green Bay on September 11.
The box was investigated and found not to be a threat. Inside the box was an American flag and a letter. It’s now revealed that the letter was written to complain about the state of the flag hanging outside the Associated Bank. The letter complained that the flag should have been retired, and the letter writer was sending them a replacement flag:
Mr. Harmening: Is “this” what you branch in Hales Corners represents?? Needless to say, this flag didn’t obtain this status in a day or two, in a week or two or in a month or two. I am ashamed that I, as an “OLD” had to take the responsibility of “retiring” “OLD GLORY”!!! I hope that you have a “come to Jesus meeting” with your branch manager. There is “absolutely” no need for this to happen—ever. If I noticed this problem, I am sure that thousands of drivers who have passed by over the months couldn’t help but notice this flag deteriorating. “GREAT” form of advertising????…
