CUMBERLAND COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM) — Over on the West Shore, those who have served our country both before and after 9/11 came together to mark the day on Friday at the New Cumberland VFW.
A wreath was placed, bells were tolled, and there was a moment of silence, not just to mark the tragedy of 9/11, but also to remember the Americans from all walks of life who stood together with courage and compassion on that day.

There was another goal for this ceremony, as our nation becomes ever more populated with those born after the attacks: to make sure they know what happened then and what it means for their future.
“You never let history go,” retired Sgt. Keith Williams, New Cumberland VFW commander, said. “So, for the younger generation coming through, they need to understand what took place because it doesn’t always mean that (just because) it happened once, it won’t happen again.
