Police are investigating two fatal traffic collisions that happened less than nine hours apart in adjacent East Bay communities.The first wreck occurred in Concord, where officers responded at about 8:40 p.m. Wednesday to a crash at Willow Pass Road and Port Chicago Highway involving a blue Toyota Prius and a red Chevrolet Cruze. Despite lifesaving efforts, the driver of the Chevy Cruze was pronounced dead at the scene. The Prius driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported for medical treatment. The roadway remained closed for about four hours as officers conducted their initial investigation. Then at about 5:06 a.m. on Thursday, Walnut Creek police responded to a vehicle crash near Rossmoor Parkway and Stanley Dollar Drive in the gated senior community of Rossmoor. Police said a 32-year-old woman was killed in a solo crash. Both investigations remain ongoing.
