OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — The City of Oakland has acquired a new specialty truck to combat illegal dumping across the area, tackling what officials describe as a serious health crisis. Since the truck began operation on Monday, public works crews have removed 17 tons of garbage from city streets.
Oakland Public Works deployed the specialty truck as part of a citywide initiative to clear trash from residential neighborhoods. Officials designated the widespread dumping as a high-priority issue due to the health risks posed by large accumulations of garbage.
