LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A pedestrian is dead after being struck by a vehicle in Laughlin Sunday afternoon, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.The crash happened around 1:09 p.m.Police said evidence at the scene, along with surveillance video and witness statements, indicates the pedestrian was crossing the roadway from west to east, north of a marked crosswalk.

At the same time, an 80-year-old man from Golden Valley, Arizona, was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee southbound in the left lane.Investigators say the pedestrian entered the vehicle’s path, and the Jeep struck the person with its front right side. The impact sent the pedestrian into the roadway, where they came to rest along the west curb.Medical personnel transported the pedestrian to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Despite life-saving efforts, the person was later pronounced dead at the hospital. Police said the driver remained at the scene and showed no signs of impairment.The crash marks the 40th traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction so far this year.Metro police continue their investigation.
