New driverless cars are headed to Houston roads as Amazon-owned Zoox expands to what it calls its “most sprawling market to date.”
Zoox operations will soon roll out with its test fleet in downtown, central tourist areas and select residential neighborhoods of Houston, according to a recent company news release.
The company will start manually mapping the city using its retrofitted test fleet before progressing to autonomous testing. Once mapping and initial testing are complete, Zoox plans to deploy its driverless robotaxis, laying the groundwork for a future ride-hailing service.
