Huntsville City Council to consider FBI agreement on explosive device response

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The Huntsville City Council is set to consider a resolution Thursday authorizing Mayor Tommy Battle to sign a multi-agency agreement with the FBI aimed at improving the region’s response to explosive devices.

The memorandum of understanding would formalize a partnership between the FBI’s Birmingham Division and nine Alabama law enforcement agencies, including the Huntsville Police Department, Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, Birmingham Police Department, Florence Police Department, Gadsden Police Department, Hoover Police Department, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.

Under the agreement, the agencies would share personnel, equipment and expertise in the Northern District of Alabama for responding to improvised explosive devices — defined in the MOU as explosive materials/devices, suspected explosive materials/devices and weapons of mass destruction…
