With future of birth centers in Alabama in doubt, expectant mothers question their options

After a traumatic experience with the birth of her first child in 2023, Neveah Wilhite made a promise to herself.

If she ever got pregnant again, she would not go back to a hospital to give birth.

“I was just stuck in bed, wasn’t able to get up, not able to move,” said Wilhite, a stay-at-home mom from Hartselle. “She didn’t let me push on my own terms, what I felt was right. So, I probably was in pain for three months after having my son, just from where the stitches were placed, and I ended up having a lot of back pain from where the epidural had failed on one side.”…
