HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAFF) – Nearly three years after her son was shot and killed in Huntsville, Evangelist Kenyelle Raybon has channeled her grief into a ministry meant to impact the lives of young people in North Alabama.
Raybon’s son, Devin McDonald, 23, was shot and killed on Aug. 28, 2023, on Quality Circle in Huntsville. Prosecutors say an Indiana man, Damon Blinks, shot Devin, stole his car, and fled the state. Blinks was indicted on a capital murder charge in April 2025. Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
Faith through grief
Raybon said the loss tested her faith and her mental health in ways she had not anticipated.
“I struggled with my mental health after my son passed,” Raybon said. “People don’t like to talk about that when they’re in ministry, because it makes them look like they’re the weak person. They’re supposed to be the one, you know, that has all the answers and things like that. But at the end of the day, we are human.”…
