1 person, 2 firefighters injured in northeast Indy townhome fire

INDIANAPOLIS — Three people, including two firefighters, are in the hospital Thursday recovering from injuries sustained during an early morning blaze at a townhome.

The Indianapolis Fire Department was called around 7:50 a.m. to the city’s northeast side on report of a blaze breaking out at a local apartment complex. Upon arrival at the Lake Castle Apartment Homes, they found a heavy fire that had broken out in a vacant unit on Kingsport Rd.

The fire was reportedly inside a townhome connected to the apartment complex, which is near the intersection of E. 75th Street and Shadeland Avenue. The blaze was brought under control in 40 minutes, IFD officials said.

While fighting the flames, two IFD firefighters were reportedly injured and taken to the hospital with slight injuries. Another person, identified as a civilian, was also hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

The City of Lawrence Fire Department reportedly assisted IFD in fighting the blaze. The fire is now under investigation, according to IFD officials. No other information was immediately provided…
