Home goods retailer opening in former Bed Bath & Beyond spot at River City Marketplace

Nearly a year after Bed Bath & Beyond announced plans to close its store at River City Marketplace, a new retailer is set to open in the spot.

HomeGoods, a chain of discount home furnishings stores owned by TJ Maxx parent TJX Companies, will open Thursday, Jan. 25, at the sprawling Northside retail center, at 13221 City Station Drive, near Buffalo Wild Wings and Chili’s.

Known for its kitchenware, home decor, furniture, rugs and more, the store is the sixth for HomeGoods in Northeast Florida. Others include 9041 Southside Blvd., 11824 Atlantic Blvd. And 9625 Crosshill Blvd, all in Jacksonville; 2150 3rd St. S. in Jacksonville Beach; and 463919 SR 200 in Yulee.

HomeGoods is the second major retailer to open at River City Marketplace this month. On Jan. 12, BJ’s Wholesale Club opened at 12884 City Center Blvd. in a new building at the site formerly home to Regal Cinemas’ Regal River City Marketplace.

The opening comes less than three months after TJX Companies opened another home goods concept, Homesense, in Mandarin at 11111 San Jose Blvd., the former Stein Mart building at Riverplace Shopping Center.
