Thousands without power in West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Thousands of Consumers Energy customers around Michigan lost power early Friday, including many in Barry County.

About 12,000 Consumers customers statewide were without power as of about 7:30 p.m., according to the Jackson-based utility’s interactive outage map. Barry County was the hardest hit, with as many as 7,200 customers there affected.

Outages by county as of 7:30 a.m.:

  • Allegan County: 1,481
  • Barry County: 7,138
  • Calhoun County: 268
  • Kalamazoo County: 1,662
  • Muskegon County: 245
  • Van Buren County: 166

The outages followed storms overnight that brought lightning and gusty winds.
