MARSHALL – The postseason has arrived for area high school wrestling teams with league meets highlighting the schedule over the weekend. Marshall hosted the Interstate 8 Conference Meet with the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at Portage Northern.
Interstate 8 Conference
Locally, Harper Creek, Pennfield and Marshall competed at the Interstate 8 Conference Championship Meet at Marshall. Harper Creek had the highest team finish, taking fourth as a team. Jackson Northwest took first overall.
The Beavers were led by four wrestlers who won their weight class, including individual champs Devan Garcia (113), Jackson Pennock (126), Landon Walter (175) and Ricky Johnson (285).
Also for Harper Creek, Camren Brock (106) took second, Israel Waite (138) took third and Kowen Slucter (165) was a runner-up.
Pennfield was led by a second-place finishes by Braylin Swank (120) and Dane Harper (285).
Marshall’s best result was by Harland Begg (215), who took second with Nick Ryan (285) taking third.
