KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Hundreds of local families lined up Saturday for the seventh annual “Operation Backpack” giveaway, helping Kansas City students head back to school in style and with confidence.
Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw and dozens of volunteers distributed thousands of free backpacks filled with school supplies. The event also featured shoe store gift cards and free haircuts.
“It’s so important to make sure that, you know, they want to look good and feel good,” Parks-Shaw said. “And when they look good and feel good, that builds their confidence and will help them to be better students.”…
