Garage Fire Spreads to Attic in Minutes and Displaces an Entire Overland Park Family
Tuesday morning started like any other in the Amber Meadows neighborhood of Overland Park, Kansas. By 9:30 a.m., it was anything but.
Firefighters from Overland Park and Olathe were called to 11508 W. 127th Place near Bond Street after reports of a house fire. What they found when they pulled up was not a small kitchen flame. Two vehicles and the entire front of the two-story home were fully engulfed.
She Got Out – But Just Barely
The female occupant had already made it outside by the time crews arrived. She was treated at the scene by Johnson County Med-Act paramedics for minor smoke inhalation and did not require hospitalization.
That part is the good news. The home itself was not as lucky.
The Fire Moved Up Fast and Getting to It Was Not Easy
Firefighters attacked the blaze from the exterior first, then moved inside. They found flames on the second floor and in the attic, which meant the fire had already traveled through more of the structure than the front of the house suggested.
A second alarm was called for additional resources. And then came the complication that slowed everything down: access inside the home was difficult due to a large volume of contents throughout the structure…
