KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Thousands of people across the Kansas City metro are at risk of losing their health insurance starting Thursday. The change affects non-U.S. citizens and refugees, who will lose coverage unless their immigration status changes.
Community health organizations are working to find these families other options before the deadline.
Law behind the change
The cut stems from the president’s tax and spending bill. Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) funding for lawfully present non-citizens ends in days.
