Thieves smash holes through cinderblock walls in string of Independence business break-ins

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Police are investigating a string of burglaries across Independence after thieves busted through exterior cinderblock walls to squeeze into at least four businesses.

Investigators with the Independence Police Department confirmed a pattern connecting four separate break-ins, where burglars used sledgehammers to chisel out entry holes measuring barely over two feet wide.

Early Tuesday morning, thieves smashed through roughly 10 inches of brick and concrete at Rapid Fire Arcade, pushing past a tight shelving unit and knocking over a monitor to get inside.

“They basically bashed through the cylinder blocks,” said owner Gary Wray, noting the opening measured roughly 2 feet 3 inches by 1 foot 5 inches. “I know for a fact when I saw the hole I wasn’t going through there.” The thieves fled with tools and cash…
