New River residents grapple with damage on State Route 116

NEW RIVER, Tenn. (WATE) — The Tennessee Department of Transportation is working to repair flood damage on State Route 116 in Anderson County, and some in the New River community are frustrated with how the road work is being done.

“The ditch lines are even with the road, and water is the number one enemy of the highway. And when the ditch lines are full, the water is constantly running across the road,” said Scotty Phillips, the owner of New River General Store.

The only way around the road closure is by ATV.
