Several Dickson County High School athletes made the trip to Knoxville last Thursday, competing in the TSSAA Class AAA track and field state championships at the University of Tennessee’s Tom Black Track.
For the Cougars, the day had its moments, even if the scoreboard didn’t always reflect them as they competed on a stage that only the best in the state get to stand on.
On the boys side, junior Dustin Navarro turned in the program’s strongest individual finish, clearing 13 feet in the pole vault to place seventh.
Sophomore Ayden Wilson ran the 800 meter in 2:02.42, finishing 13th. The boys 4×800 relay team finished 13th among 16 teams.
Brentwood won the boys team title with 48 points, edging runner-up Nolensville by just four.
In girls competition, junior Aubrey Reiman pulled double duty, competing in both the 300 meter hurdles — finishing 16th in the finals at 52.15 — and the outdoor pentathlon, where she placed 11th…
