LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — A Louisiana lawmaker plans to file legislation banning Flock cameras following a series of controversies over how law enforcement agencies in Acadiana and across Louisiana have used the surveillance technology.
The cameras, made by Flock Safety, are used to scan license plates and track vehicle movements. More than 150 of the devices are clustered in Lafayette, with additional cameras located throughout Acadiana.
Opposition to the technology has surged in recent weeks. Two men were arrested in early August on allegations of vandalizing the devices in Lafayette, and state Rep. Danny McCormick, R-District 1, has joined critics of the cameras…
