Fire at Lafayette apartment 4-plex leaves 9 people displaced; no injuries reported

LAFAYETTE, La. (NEWS 15) — Nine people are now looking for a place to live after a candle sparked a fire that tore through a four-unit apartment building, according to the Lafayette Fire Department.

Officials reported Lafayette firefighters responded to the four-plex on Rue Royale off Pont Des Mouton Road on Tuesday, April 14, just before 2:30 p.m. on reports of a building fire and found smoke billowing from the roof.

They said emergency responders searched the building after initial reports indicated a disabled person might be trapped inside but learned a neighbor had already helped the woman out of her apartment before firefighters arrived…
