LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Lexington officials announced on Monday that the city would activate Phase One of its Heat Plan, mustering resources for those in need as the heat rises.

Around noon on July 27, Lexington Emergency Management posted on social media that Phase One of the city heat plan would stay active through Tuesday, July 28.
With the plan’s activation, city leaders said they were putting the following actions in place:
Cooling stations across Lexington
The Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has opened cooling stations, with locations at Arbor Youth Services, Lexington Rescue Mission, Mountain Comprehensive Care Center, New Life Day Center, New Vista Drop-In Center, Nathaniel Mission, and Recovery Café Lexington.

LexTran will provide rides to these cooling stations for those experiencing homelessness free of charge, according to emergency management authorities.
Community outreach
Teams with the city will reportedly be distributing resources to help community members cool down who aren’t able to access or find transportation to a local cooling center. Community centers will also be open until the early evening.
Waste collection times
City waste collection will begin one hour early for the rest of July, according to officials. Residential collection will begin at 4:30 a.m. and commercial collection at 3:30 a.m. Lexingtonians were urged by city leaders to place their carts on the curb the night before their collection day…
