Former Kentucky prison officer sentenced to 3 years for assaulting inmate, filing false report

LEXINGTON, Ky. (FOX 56) — A former Federal Medical Center (FMC) Lexington Correctional officer was sentenced last week in federal court for assaulting an inmate and filing a false report.

According to a plea agreement, Ryan Carnahan was an FMC Lexington correctional officer on June 28, 2025, when he and two other officers got into an argument with an inmate who was detained in his cell in the Special House Unit (SHU).

Carnahan asked the inmate and his cellmate to put on handcuffs. Both refused, leading Carnahan and the officers to enter the cell without either inmate being handcuffed. Carnahan assaulted the inmate, who then retaliated against Carnahan…
