Halftime Thoughts: Gonzaga’s big men have been more physical than Kentucky’s

The Kentucky Wildcats trail Gonzaga 42-32 at the half after the Bulldogs went on a run late in the first half.

The glaring problem in the first half has been how Gonzaga’s big men are playing way more physically than Kentucky’s, leading to 24 points in the paint. Ugonna Onyenso, Zvonimir Ivisic, and Aaron Bradshaw need to be more physical, or the Bulldogs will continue to force the ball down low and score whenever they want.

Luckily for Kentucky, Rob Dillingham hit a three late in the half to cut the Gonzaga lead from 13 points to 10. Hopefully, this ends up being a big basket for Kentucky as they look for a double-digit halftime comeback.

The offense has to be better if Kentucky wants to pull this off. They are shooting 32.3% from the field, which will not get the job done. Gonzaga is also rebounding the Wildcats 26-17. If this margin doesn’t narrow, the Cats will not win.

Kentucky needs to play a great second half on both ends of the floor to avoid three losses in a row in Rupp Arena.
