Flooding in Crete has begun with the Big Blue River expected to continue to rise

CRETE, Neb. – The Big Blue River and surrounding creeks are causing some flooding in Southeast Nebraska. Flood Warnings in effect in Jefferson, Gage, and Saline counties due to the continued rising of the Big Blue River.

Emergency Manager for Saline and Jefferson Counties John McKee says right now they are working to make sure the cities are prepared for what’s to come, and doing their best to keep the public informed.

“The water is still rising to our north and still coming through so we are expecting to see a lot of rise here. It’s kind of giving us a chance to do some planning ahead and what roads might close and what really needs to be looked at. Planning with our first responders so they know that they can’t go a certain way with an ambulance to get to Crete or someplace. So its just the wait and see”…
