Refrigerant leak triggers carbon monoxide alarm at Madison home

MADISON, Wis. — A refrigerant leak from a newly installed heating and cooling system triggered a carbon monoxide alarm Wednesday night at a home, according to the Madison Fire Department.

Ladder 7 responded shortly after 8:40 p.m. to a single-family home in the 6000 block of Birch Hill Drive near Raymond Road for a report of an activated carbon monoxide alarm.

When firefighters arrived, their Sensit Gold G2 monitors immediately showed positive readings for carbon monoxide. Crews searched the home and ruled out several potential sources, including the water heater, oven, stove, clothes dryer and furnace…
