Man struck by vehicle, killed while trying to walk across Highway 12 in Sauk City

SAUK CITY, Wis. — The Sauk Prairie Police Department said a man was struck by a vehicle and killed Wednesday evening as he was trying to walk across Highway 12.

Officers, along with the Sauk City Fire Department and Sauk Prairie EMS were called to the 700 block of Phillips Blvd. in the Village of Sauk City just after 7:30 p.m. An investigation found that a man was crossing the highway mid-block when he was hit by an eastbound vehicle.

Police said witnesses called 911 and performed life-saving measures until first responders arrived. The man was taken to Sauk Prairie Hospital where he later died.

The driver involved in the crash was not injured. They remained on scene and are reportedly cooperating with investigators.

Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to have been factors in the crash. Eastbound traffic on Highway 12 was temporarily restricted due to the crash, but all lanes reopened by 10 p.m.
