Grocery stores run low on goods after winter storm

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Grocery stores across the Mid-South are facing some challenges when it comes to keeping the shelves stocked following last week’s winter storm.

The full shelves and long lines at the Cash Saver in Midtown are a far cry from what we saw last week.

Jonathan Munoz said it was hard to get what he needed when he went grocery shopping ahead of the winter storm.

“We tried to get ahead of it, just because we knew that the shelves were going to be empty. And when we got there, it was like right before it hit, they were empty,” he said.

Munoz tried going to Cash Saver and elsewhere with very little luck.

“So we stocked up enough, but we really just kind of lived meagerly, just enough to get through it,” he said.

State of emergency extended another week in Memphis

This seemed to be the case all across the Mid-South. Between people trying to stock up and delayed deliveries, it was hard for grocery stores to keep the shelves stocked.

Darrell Lewis, the manager at Cash Saver, says they started to run out of inventory by Monday. Out of the six shipments they typically get in a week, only four were able to make it through the ice and snow.
