NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A group of Death Row exonerees in Tennessee is asking Gov. Bill Lee to stop the execution of a man convicted of a 1994 triple murder in Memphis.
Tony Carruthers is scheduled to be put to death on May 21 for the murders of Frederick Tucker, along with Delois and Marcellos Anderson. Prosecutors said the victims were kidnapped, tortured, and buried alive in a grave beneath a coffin at a Memphis cemetery.
Thursday, the group joined the leader of the Tennessee Innocence Project for a news conference in Nashville, where they asked for a stay of execution for Carruthers…
