Mesa Public Schools plans consolidation move for administrative staff

Renovation is expected to begin this week at Mesa Public Schools’ Curriculum Service Center on Stapley Drive so it can move all its administrative staff under one roof, saving money in the long run.

The Governing Board unanimously gave the go-ahead to spend $1.6 million to modernize Building 1 located south on the site. Building 2 on the property is where the board meetings are held.

“When the community sees a $1.7 million request to modernize a district office – it raises understandable concerns,” said James Smithson at the April 9 meeting. “While some of us might understand why this money needs to be spent, the majority of the stakeholders don’t.

“Right now, the expectation should be restraint. That may mean shared spaces, rethinking how offices are used, and focusing on function over comfort in the short term.”…
