62 drowning deaths in Florida to date

Some 62 lives have been claimed in drownings across Florida so far this year, according to state officials. At this pace, Florida could surpass 2025’s 120 deaths, the deadliest year yet in the Sunshine State.

As families head to the beaches, lakes and pools this summer, Nicklaus Children’s Hospital, the YMCA of South Florida and the Florida Panthers came together recently to call on communities across the region to lock arms and stop this deadly trend.

So far, there have been 12 child drownings across the tri-county area in the past six months alone. Statewide, Florida has recorded 62 drownings so far, including seven in Miami-Dade, four in Monroe, three in Broward, and three in Palm Beach…
