Malachi Toney reminds fans he’s a Heisman contender with epic Miami spring game catch

Malachi Toney made a one-handed grab near the back of the end zone Saturday, only to land just out of bounds, but the play was good enough to make the rounds on social media. For Miami fans, it was another quick reminder that the Hurricanes’ most electric player did not lose a step this offseason.

Malachi Toney is a contender for the Heisman trophy in 2026

The catch was ruled incomplete, but the body control, hand strength and feel for the boundary were the traits that turned Toney into a star during Miami’s run to the 2025 College Football Playoff national championship game.

Toney set the school’s single-season record with 109 catches, led the ACC with 1,211 receiving yards, scored 10 receiving touchdowns and finished with 1,622 all-purpose yards as a true freshman in 2025. He also added 113 rushing yards, a rushing touchdown, 298 punt-return yards and even threw two touchdown passes.
