What started as a short-term room rental in Miami’s Little River neighborhood allegedly turned violent, ending with one woman in jail and another calling 911 in fear for her life.
According to police, a 49-year-old woman is accused of attacking her roommate with a broomstick and threatening her with a knife inside a home on May 16. The victim, who had been renting a room at the house for about two weeks, ran out of the bedroom and called 911. Detectives later served a search warrant at the property and say they recovered both a knife and a broomstick from the residence.
Investigators detail the alleged attack
Detectives identified the suspect as 49-year-old Yasmay Terazon‑Martinez. An arrest affidavit states that inside the victim’s bedroom, Terazon‑Martinez hit the other woman in the head and arm with a broomstick and allegedly threatened to kill her.
Investigators say Terazon‑Martinez gave inconsistent statements when questioned. After obtaining a search warrant for a residence near Northwest Miami Court and Northwest 80th Street, detectives reported finding the broomstick and knife described in the affidavit, according to WSVN.
