Just days after posting that it was in “dire financial straits,” the Seward Cafe in south Minneapolis announced on Wednesday that it will shutter the cafe “for the time being.”
“It was a hard decision, but we feel it is a necessary one,” reads an announcement on social media from the cooperatively-owned restaurant that first opened in 1974. “We will still be booking and hosting shows and events, and look forward to seeing all of you this weekend and beyond.”
Upon making its initial announcement, the cafe at 2129 E. Franklin Ave. said it would temporarily close through Sept. 24 and 25. It now plans to reopen on Saturday and Sunday at 8 a.m. to host a “bye-for-now weekend celebration.”…
