Hundreds pack Modesto City Hall over data center fears

(FOX40.COM) — Hundreds of Modesto residents packed city hall to voice strong opposition to the possibility of a large-scale data center coming to the city, urging local leaders to consider a moratorium or ban before any project can move forward.

But there is one major distinction: Modesto city officials say there is currently no data center proposal, application, or deal before the city, and that large-scale data centers aren’t an allowable land use under the current municipal code.

Still, residents who filled Tuesday’s City Council meeting said they don’t want to wait until a project materializes to make their concerns known.
